A humanoid for factories first

Optimus is Tesla's bipedal humanoid robot, aimed first at repetitive factory tasks such as parts handling and sorting. Tesla has framed Gen 3 as the design intended for volume production. Early units have been used inside Tesla factories for learning and data collection; useful autonomous work is still ramping and should be treated as early-stage.

Where it is built

Tesla has been converting former Model S / Model X space at Fremont for Optimus assembly, with Gen 3 volume start described as mid-to-late 2026.
